The modern workplace employee is more stressed-out than ever. Leaving late, working long hours, too much sitting, it all adds up and it’s stressing everyone out! Even when you leave the office, it becomes difficult to unplug and ignore emails to your phone. In a survey commissioned by Neuvana, 82% or professionals have been contacted by a colleague via a personal channel about a work-related matter. And an additional 35% of this group say these messages come through once or more per day! Common Workplace Stressors

Some people don’t even realize how stressed out they are during work hours. Humans are adaptive. Meaning, you can actually become conditioned to high levels of stress in the workplace and not notice the stress you’re experiencing. Understanding these common workplace stressors can help pinpoint those that are present in your work life and allow you to begin mindfully managing them:

  • Too many communication channels
  • No work-life balance
  • Excessive workloads
  • No opportunities for advancements
  • Interpersonal conflict
  • Physical discomfort
  • Leaving late

Communication & Stress

Let’s dive a little deeper into a few of the common stressors. Email notifications are one thing, but with all of the new workplace management systems, chats, and texts/calls to your personal phone, it can be exhausting to keep up with all of it!

Vacation time Neuvana Life

The constant connectivity available to us nowadays has pros and cons. But if you’re feeling stressed and exhausted from it, you need to put yourself first and set healthy work-life boundaries.

Strategies for Workplace Stress Management

  • Better time management. Managing your time can become difficult the higher your workload becomes. However, it’s essential for your health to work on managing it. Making lists of things you need to accomplish by priority and focusing on one thing at a time will help.
  • Get enough sleep. A good night’s sleep can have a huge impact on your focus, energy, and attitude at work. Getting enough sleep is also important for many of your bodily functions during the day. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try dimming the lights in your house two hours before bed and avoiding screens after that time.
  • Recharge on lunch. Lunchtime is the perfect time to take a breather from your workday. Try leaving the office or finding a quiet place to recharge. Using Xen by Neuvana on your lunch may also help. Xen works to stimulate your vagus nerve and may have many health benefits including less stress and anxiety, more energy, a brighter mood, and increased focus.
  • Change your environment. It can be difficult to keep your desk organized and free of clutter, but it may actually be a huge source of stress for you. Staying mindful of your environment and the stress it may be causing you will help lower your stress during the day. You’ll thank yourself later.
  • Talk to your supervisor. Getting clear expectations on projects you’re unsure about or have questions on can lessen your anxiety. Take notes during your meeting, it will help you remember more and may avoid future questions.
  • Establish boundaries. Turning off notifications on your phone after work hours will help you unplug from the day and find some relaxation time away. Remember, almost all emails can wait until the next morning. Establishing these boundaries are extremely beneficial to your health.
